Palm Desert is home to the College of the Desert, a community-owned and supported 2-year school, serving more than 9,000 students, as well as providing educational and cultural activities for residents and area visitors (www.collegeofthedesert.edu). The new California State University, San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus, recently opened.

With a population of more than 44,000 permanent residents, Palm Desert is the Coachella Valley's retail, education and cultural center.
